Free Movie at the Library, Beating Winter Blues

Jan. 3: 5 Things You Need to Know Today

1. Enjoy a free afternoon movie at the today at 2:30 pm. John C. Reilly and Marisa Tomei star in Cyrus, a 2010 comedy about a long divorced man who thinks he's found the perfect woman, until he meets her nearly grown son.

2. Today is the first day of a weeklong "Limitless Mind Meditation Retreat" at the . Resident teacher Holly McGregor will lead a guided meditation to clear the mind. Today through Friday, sessions will be offered each day from 7:30-8:30 am, 10:30-11:30 am, 4:30-5:30 pm and 7-8:15 pm. Classes are open to all and are $6 per session.

3. Whitman High School boys and girls fencing teams compete at Half Hollow Hills East High School at 4 pm.

4. The Station Branch of is holding a meeting from 4:30-8 pm tonight to learn about a free, at-home study program for adults age 21 and over who would like to prepare for the GED exam, but are unable to attend classes on a regular basis. Certified instructors provide assignments which can be picked up at the library and completed at home. For more information call 631-667-6000, ext. 454. Open to all but registration is required.

 5. Now that the stress and fun of the holidays is over, the cold gray days of winter can leave some people feeling listless, lonely and even depressed. is offering coffee and companionship to get you through the after-holiday let down in a supportive atmosphere with "Chicken Soup for the Soul: The January Blues" tonight at 7:30 pm. Cost is $15 or $10 for members.
