Blog Roundup: Why the Second Shooter Matters

See what some Patch bloggers are saying this week.

Patch bloggers take time out of their busy days to let you know about some things going on in their neck of the woods. Here, we've gathered what a few of them from around the area had to say. The Birds! Migration Etc

The other morning, I woke to a Hitchcockian moment in the backyard.  It had rained (not enough to really improve the drought, but you knew that).  And somehow, that seemed to have rousted about 500 grackles, who were sipping up every last drop of aqua on their way South (I hoped).

H-ton Girls’ Soccer Wins on Senior Day

The Huntington High School girls’ soccer team topped Bellport, 2-1 on a goal by Samantha Lynch in a dramatic overtime victory on Senior Day at Blue Devil Field. The win propels the team into a Suffolk Class AA playoffs game next Monday afternoon.

Every Minute Counts

Sometimes, life gets in the way. Work, family obligations, and especially sleep can stand in the way of getting to the gym. And, when you get in the habit of letting life force you to miss your sessions, you’ll quickly become even more likely to give up on the idea of hitting the gym all together.

Instead of skipping your workout entirely because of a scheduling conflict, try to squeeze in a session with whatever time you may have during the day. It may seem a little silly at first glance, but even 15-20 minutes is better than nothing at all. In addition to the immediate benefits of exercise, making sure you find the time will help you in the long run as well.

Why the Second Shooter Matters

Unfortunately, Carrie & I don’t have the chance to shoot together as often as we’d like. With conflicting schedules and the demands of scheduling at times that best serve our clients needs—it’s difficult for the two of us to arrive together at a shoot—which is why we value our interns and additional staff so much. Luckily, we had the opportunity to shoot the Leadership Huntington Foundation Gala & Graduation event last week—and we were able to do it together.

What Causes Cavities?

Bacteria in our mouths devour food particles made up of sugar and starch after eating. The bacteria  congregate in grooves on top of teeth and also in between our teeth where they secrete acids.  These acids dissolve tooth enamel which then causes a void left behind, thus the "cavity".

Hauppauge, 'tis a Hilly Place

Long Island's communities have long been lumped into broad geographic groups of North and South Shores, and the East End. To leave our appreciation at that is to exclude a large swath of communities in the middle of the Island as well as those in between.

Hauppauge is neither geographically a part of the North or South Shores, but located at the origin of waterbodies which feed both, the Nissequogue and Connetquot Rivers. So in the spirit of the Lorax I speak for one of Hauppauge's most defining features, its hills!
