HCFAS Hands Only CPR Committee, Neighbor

The HUNTINGTON COMMUNITY FIRST AID SQUAD (HCFAS) has joined the initiative to facilitate learning American Heart Associations’ Hands-Only CPR: CPR without mouth-to-mouth breaths.

The HCFAS provides Advanced Life Support Ambulances and Emergency Medical services to the residents of the Huntington Community Ambulance District located within the town of Huntington. Over 200 volunteer members responded to over 5,700 calls during 2012. The Huntington Community Ambulance District covers an area from Lloyd Harbor and Lloyd Neck in the north to Melville in the south and from the Nassau/Suffolk border and Cold Spring Harbor in the west to Greenlawn and Dix Hills in the east.

HCFAS provides free demonstrations on how to perform Hands-Only CPR to Huntington Community Residents, Organizations, & Businesses. Hands-Only CPR focuses on providing chest compressions to victims of Sudden Cardiac Arrest.

WHY LEARN CPR?

According to the American Heart Association, Cardiac Arrests are more common than you think, and they can happen to anyone at any time.

•	Nearly 383,000 out-of-hospital Sudden Cardiac Arrests occur annually.

•	70% of Americans may feel helpless to act during a cardiac emergency because they either do not know how to administer CPR or their training has significantly lapsed.

•	This alarming statistic could hit close to home, because home is exactly where 88%, or approximately four out of five, cardiac arrests occur.

•	Put very simply: The life you save with CPR is most likely to be someone you love.
