'Nightmare' Wraps Up, Authors in Town

Your guide to some of the events around town this week.

New HART Schedules
New bus schedules take effect Monday on some HART bus routes around Huntington. The town announced the changes in October. 

Speaking of Books
Basketball legend Julius Erving will speak at the Book Revue Monday at 6 p.m. while Oliver North, former Marine colonel and conservative political commentator, will speak Tuesday at 7 p.m.

'Nightmare' Coming to an End
The student art exhibit, Nightmare on Main Street, ends Tuesday. The Huntington Arts Council show began Wednesday.

Forum to Address Hunger Issues
The Cinema Arts Centre hosts a program Wednesday on hunger. The program includes the showing of the documentary "A Place at the Table,"  followed by a discussion of hunger issues focusing on Long Island, featuring celebrity chef Tom Colicchio, U.S. Rep. Steve Israel, D-Huntington, Randi Shubin Dresner, president and CEO of Island Harvest, and CBS Radio LI Bureau Chief Mike Xirinachs. Assemb. Charles Lavine, D-Glen Cove, will moderate. The program begins at 7:30 p.m.

Oncology Support Group
Huntington Hospital hosts an oncology support group Wednesday from 7-9 p.m., at the Women's Health Center.  Contact Susan Degnan at 631-351-2013.

3 Stores to Open
Pottery Barn is opening three stores Thursday at Walt Whitman Shops. Among them is the first PBteens store on Long Island.

Gay Film Festival
The 16th annual Long Island Gay and Lesbian Film Festival gets underway at Cinema Arts Friday and runs through Monday. Ten feature films, five documentaries, twenty-one shorts, plus guest filmmakers and community groups, discussions, parties and receptions are on the schedule.
