More Than 300 Prom Dress Collected in Huntington For Charity

Donations to be distributed to Long Island residents in need this prom season.

Through the help of Huntington volunteers and generous donors, prom season will be a litle easier on the wallet for some Long Island girls and their families this prom season.

Organizers are reporting a good turnout at two donation spots in Huntington on Sunday.

The Huntington YMCA collected 60 prom dresses for their 18th annual Prom Boutique sponsored by the Long Island Volunteer Center Sunday.

St. Anthony's High School, Villanova Alumni Association in South Huntington received 260 prom dresses.

The prom accessory collections will be donated for free to families who cannot easily absorb the expense of a new gown for their prom, awards ceremony or graduation event, according to event organizers.

High school guidance counselors, at-risk youth agencies, group homes and church outreaches made the program available to more than 1,300 girls from 65 schools and non-profit organizations in 2011, according to the LIVC.
