Annual Beach Cleaning Day Set For Saturday

Clean Beaches Bus Tour to be featured for first time.

Town officials and event organizers are encouraging residents to join them Saturday for the annual Clean Beaches Day.

Event volunteers may choose between Gold Star Battalion Beach, Crab Meadow Beach and Centerport Beach for cleanup. All supplies will be provided, including drinking water. The event kicks off at 9 a.m.

At noon, presentations from the Huntington Lighthouse Preservation Society, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Unit and local officials including Susan Berland of the Huntington Town Board and Tom Kehoe, a village of Northport trustee, will be featured at a luncheon at the Senior Beach House in Centerport.

For the first time in the event's six year history, volunteers may register for the Clean Beaches Bus Tour which includes cleaning excursions to Hobart Beach on Eaton’s Neck, Asharoken Beach and Scudder Beach in Northport.
