Ready for Memorial Day?

Holiday a mix of patriotism and summer fun.

Huntington's Memorial Day parade will set off under sunny skies Monday, as the rain and chilly weather fade away.

The national holiday to commemorate America's war dead brings a mix of patriotic activities and the unofficial start of summer.

The parade starts at 11:30 a.m. at the Big H center, heading north on New York Avenue to Main Street.

Also underway will be the fourth and final day of the YMCA carnival, running from 1 to 7 p.m.

The good weather, with the temperature likely to hit 70, is expected to bring more people to the beaches. And for those grilling in the backyard, the National Fire Protection Association has some advice.

And Suffolk Police are pledging to continue a holiday weekend crackdown on drunken driving and boating. To increase water safety, SeaTow has provided loaner life jackets.
