Huntington Sports Fans Question LeBron's Decision

Many locals don't understand why LeBron James chose the Heat over the Knicks.

Following LeBron James' decision to head down to South Beach and join his buddies Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh as a member of the Miami Heat, many throughout Huntington are unhappy and even angry about the choice "The King" made on Thursday night.

"It's complete garbage," said Brian Castro of Huntington. "He could have led a revolution with the Knicks, but now he has tarnished his legacy."

While James, Wade and Bosh all agreed to take less than the maximum salary to go to Miami and form the new "Dream Team," local sports fans seemed to appreciate the response of Cavaliers' owner Dan Gilbert, who questioned James' character in an open letter to the team's fans.

"LeBron's a coward," Huntington resident Brandon Winkler said. "Regardless of what happens, he'll never be considered one of the game's elite."

Others weren't so upset with James' decision.

"I'm happy he went there, knowing how soft he is," John Foster said. "He wouldn't be able to cut it in New York, and now he gets to be a glorified Scottie Pippen."

Before LeBron made his decision, there was talk that he could be talked about as one of the best players ever, but many around the sports world think that idea has been tarnished.

"He could win five titles in a row," Foster said. "They will never be his titles. The city belongs to Wade."

One thing is for sure. Whether it's New York, Cleveland or any other team that was competing for James' services, LeBron has certainly made more enemies than friends.

But one Huntington resident thinks the move is all about winning for LeBron.

"I think the Heat are going to win it all next year," said 13-year-old Ty Johnson. "With LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, I think they're the team to beat."
