Hauppauge Girls Basketball Topples Huntington
The Blue Devils take an early lead but succumb to pressure defense.
Huntington started its basketball game at home against Hauppauge Tuesday night with six quick points, only to be outscored thereafter and fall, 48-27.
Hauppauge stormed back to tie the score at 8-8 with 3:15 remaining in the first quarter. The first quarter for Huntington was well balanced with five different players scoring points, with Huntington trailing 16-11 after one.
The Blue Devils would not recover as the Eagles increased their lead to 28-15 as the second quarter ended.

Both teams worked hard on defense to contain the other team's principal scoring threat. In particular, Hauppauge's defense held Huntington to 4 points in the second quarter and only 2 points in the fourth quarter.

Turning Point: About five minutes into the first quarter, Lindsay Alfano's basket put Hauppauge into the lead for the first time in the game, 10-8, which they would never relinquish.
Quotable: "We've prepared really hard for our first home game," said Huntington coach Mike Kaplan before the game. "Hauppauge has great outside shooting and hopefully we're prepared to defend against them."
Bottom Line: Both teams played with intensity but Huntington was unable to match Hauppauge basket for basket. The Eagles' tenacious defense limited the Blue Devils ability to score and yielded many points off turnovers.
