Football Highlights St. Anthony's Signing Day
Friars send talented class to Stony Brook, Army on National Signing Day.
Seawolves red filled the St. Anthony’s High School library Wednesday as three football standouts committed to rising college football power Stony Brook University on National Signing Day.
Running back Anthony Anderson, cornerback Fifunmi Famulisi and kicker Matthew Musgrove each signed intents to enroll as preferred walk-ons and will get a chance to compete at Stony Brook, which has won a share of the last four Big South Conference championships.
“Stony Brook stood out and I’m happy my two friends are going with me,” said Anderson, a Commack native who rushed for 1,500 yards the last two seasons and led the Friars to the CHSFL Class AAA title as a junior.

Two other standouts for the Friars, linebacker Dan Carlone and guard Joseph Tustin, will each attend Army Prep for one year before moving on to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
“I went to the Army-Navy game. Seeing that experience, I just wanted to play in it so bad,” said Carlone, who started as a freshman at Jericho before transferring to the South Huntington parochial school.

“They picked the right places,” said St. Anthony's Football Coach Rich Reichert, whose program is coming off an 8-3 season. “They didn’t go over their heads. I think they all can be successful.”
The day wasn’t only about football.
The nationally-ranked St. John’s University men’s soccer program gets talented goalkeeper Connor McElhinney.
“It’s the most professional atmosphere in college soccer,” McElhinney said. “It’s a job. That’s what I’m looking for so I can get to the next level.”
And University of Alabama Coach Miles Thompson was on hand as Chris Bacon Jr. signed to play adaptive basketball for the Tide.
