Dave Prutting up for NSCAA Award

St. Anthony's girls soccer coach candidate for NSCAA national coach of the year honors.

St. Anthony's girls soccer coach Dave Prutting is a candidate for NSCAA national coach of the year honors, according to athletic director Don Buckley.

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America will announce the honor at its annual convention in Baltimore, Jan. 12-16, 2011.

"Dave is an incredible coach," Buckley said. "He has such a calm way about himself and coaching style that the kids love playing for him."

The Friars lost to Buffalo-Nichols, 2-1, in the state CHSAA title game on Nov. 14 to wrap up a 19-1-1 season. Prutting completed his 23rd season as coach and owns a  371-47-13 career record. The season started with a bang as the .

Prutting received high marks for his handling of players in a . Prutting benched two starters for missing practice time, setting the tone for his program. And then, with the game in hand, insisted players taking corner kicks use their opposite foot.
