Whitman Team Advances on Quiz Show

Wildcats advance to second round of MSG Varsity's "The Challenge."

A Whitman acedemic team is moving on to the second round of a popular TV quiz show.

With a win over Coppiague Dec. 19, the Wildcats earned a second round match with Kings Park on MSG Varsity's "The Challenge." The contest aires March 12 at 6:30 p.m. on MSG Varsity, Cablevision’s iO TV, Channel 14.  

One of 64 teams from Long Island, is represented by Joseph Babinski, Kimberly Shen (captain), Nicholas Scover, James Campbell and Alyssa Vallar (alternate). The academic advisor is Jay Corcoran.

“The Challenge” incudes 192 high schools from New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. 

“We got off to a great start with so many close games in the first round and expect the competition to heat up as we head towards the championship rounds,” said Theresa Chillianis, MSG Varsity’s general manager.

Regional winning teams receive $2,500 for their school. The Tri-State Champion will receive $10,000 in prize money and each student participating in the final “Challenge” Championship game will receive $500.
