Candidates for the http://shufsd.org" rel="nofollow">South Huntington and http://hufsd.edu" rel="nofollow">Huntington school boards spoke before the Huntington chapter of the NAACP.
Appearing at the NAACP forum at the South Huntington Public Library were Bill Dwyer, Deniqua Crichlow, Bari Fehrs and Jennifer Mosden, battling for two open seats on the Huntington board, while Cameron Williams, Laura Carey and Nick Ciappetta spoke as part of their campaign for two positions on the South Huntington board.
Candidates addressed such topics as STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) curricula, budgets and other questions raised at the forum.
"It's extremely important to hear from the candidates," said Dolores Thompson, president emeritus of the chapter. "There's no way we can intelligently vote without seeing them."
Patch has asked the candidates for a statement on the key issue in their respective districts, and will be publishing them in the next few days before Tuesday's vote.
