Huntington High Wins National Ranking

Washington Post releases list of 'Most Challenging High Schools.'

Huntington High School has achieved a national ranking of 723 and 62 in New York State in a list of the nation’s “Most Challenging High Schools” published by the Washington Post.

A total of 1,933 high schools were ranked throughout the nation on an index the Washington Post determined using a ratio of graduating high school seniors to the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and Advanced International Certificate of Education tests given in a single year. The rankings also take into consideration the number of families that qualify for lunch subsidies and the percentage of graduates who passed one or more college-level exams during their high school careers. Only 9 percent of the approximately 22,000 U.S. public high schools qualified for a ranking.

“While no one index or criterion can represent a comprehensive measure of a district’s success, we are proud to note that Huntington High School is listed among America’s top high schools based upon the level of rigor associated with the coursework our students complete," said superintendent James Polansky.  "Providing opportunities for all students to challenge themselves is critical as we help them prepare for the demands of post-secondary academia and the 21st century workforce.  This year alone, we experienced a 30% increase in the number of students completing Advanced Placement coursework – a tribute to Huntington students and staff alike.”
