Huntington Football Shuts Out Harborfields

Calvin Bollar's three touchdowns help Huntington to a 35-0 road win.

Score: Huntington 35, Harborfields 0

Records: Huntington 1-1; Harborfields 0-2

Heroes: Huntington made the short trek to face crosstown foe Harborfields on Thursday afternoon in a Suffolk Division III football game. Blue Devils senior tailback Calvin Bollar lead the way offensively, totaling 155 yards on 14 carries with three touchdowns. His 79-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter was the game's longest play from scrimmage. Huntington senior quarterback Danny Plant had an efficient day passing the ball, completing 9 of 14 passes for 156 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Perhaps the most exciting play of the day came in the second quarter when Plant completed a long pass to senior wide receiver William Coffee who scampered into the end zone for a 50-yard touchdown. Junior running back Trayvon Toney also came up with a touchdown for Huntington and accounted for 20 yards rushing on 5 carries.

Junior running back/linebacker Connor Coyle has a big day for Harborfields as he came up with two interceptions and ran for 36 yards on 6 carries. Senior tailback Nico Amantia served as Harborfields' primary running back, grinding out 58 yards on 13 carries for the Tornadoes.

Turning Point: While the Huntington offense seemed to dominate this game, Harborfields had its share of opportunities but couldn't capitalize. Its first drive of the game was disheartening as the Tornados looked to tie the score. Starting at their own 19-yard line, Harborfields marched 74 yards to the Huntington 7-yard line. On second-down-and-5, sophomore fullback Dylan Piscitelli fumbled the ball, ending what would be Harborfields most promising drive of the day.

Quote: "This was a team win," Huntington coach Steve Muller said. "We made tackles when we needed to.  Danny Plant made some great passes.  Like I said, it was a team win.  When everybody gets a piece of it, that's what you're looking for."

Bottom Line: Huntington got the breakout win the Blue Devils were looking for after a disappointing loss last week against a good Sayville squad. Huntington looks to be rounding into form in both the passing game, running game and on defense.  Even though Harborfields offensive mistakes were a part of what kept them off of the board, the Huntington defense played a solid game in posting a shutout.

Harborfields didn't do as badly as the box score showed.  The Tornados need to eliminate mistakes on offense in order to give themselves a chance to win.  They are playing a solid defense. "We need to learn not to put our heads down when we make a mistake," Harborfields coach Michael Potter said. "It was a 35-0 game on the scoreboard, but on the field it wasn't. I told the guys that they're going to be sick when they see all of the opportunities they had."

Key Stat: There were eight turnovers in the game: Five by Harborfields and three by Huntington.
