Author Jodi Picoult To Speak At Huntington High School

What happens when you want to hold a book signing with a popular, best-selling author but the venue is too small? You move it to a larger stage. Literally.

Author Jodi Picoult will speak and sign copies of her new novel, "Sing You Home," at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 4, at Huntington High School's auditorium.

Book Revue, in partnership with the Huntington Organization of Music Parents for Arts in Education, is hosting  Picoult at the high school to accommodate the large crowds that turn out to hear the former Nesconset resident speak. Picoult's visit and book signing at the high school were successful last year, so the groups are repeating it with her new book.

"Sing You Home" explores what it means to be gay in today's world, and how reproductive science has outstripped the legal system. Are embryos people or property? What challenges do same-sex couples face when it comes to marriage and adoption? What happens when religion and sexual orientation, issues that are supposed to be justice-blind, enter the courtroom? And most important, what constitutes a "traditional family" today?

The main character, Zoe Baxter, has spent 10 years trying to get pregnant, and after multiple miscarriages and infertility issues, it looks like her dream is about to come true -- she is seven months pregnant. But a terrible turn of events leads to a nightmare, one that takes away the baby she has already fallen for; and breaks apart her marriage to Max.
