2011 Parents' Convention at Stimson: Every Child Matters

Discover the importance of voting and learn how to make your parenting and your vote count at the free 2011 Parents' Convention sponsored by Every Child Matters from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15, at Stimson Middle School.

There will be games, face painting, raffles and crafts for children. Lunch and childcare will be provided. Long Island advocate Alice Cone will be a speaker at a workshop.

According to the group's web site, candidates will be on hand to answer questions. Those who have confirmed their attendance include county executive candidates Steve Bellone (D) and Angie Carpenter (R); 3rd Legislative District candidates Kate Browning (D) and Susan M. Sineo (R); DuWayne Gregory (D), 15th Legislative District; Steve Stern (D), 16th Legislative District; Dennis A. Garetano (R), 17th Legislative District; and William Spencer (D), 18th Legislative District.

Convention Timeline:
11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. - Registration, Lunch, Booths
12:30 - 1:15 p.m. - Childcare Drop Off, Booth Wrap-Up
1:15 - 2 p.m. - Workshops: How to make your vote count & How to make your parenting count (Your choice of a workshop)
2:15 - 3:15 p.m. - Address the Candidates
3:30 - 4 p.m.- Speaker; raffle giveaways

Child Activities include:
- Face Painting
- Hair Coloring
- Crafts
- Games
- Skate-o the Dinosaur on skates
- Raffles

There will be donation boxes for the following:
- School supplies which will be donated to homeless children on Long Island
- Nonperishable food items, which will be donated to LI cares

Every Child Matters raises the concerns of children during elections. The group was established in 2001 and is a non-profit, non-partisan organization working to make public investments in children, youth, and families a national political priority.
