Birchwood Kids Help Huntington Hospital

Students decorate ceiling tiles for pediatric unit.

Students and staff at Birchwood school made a special-delivery donation to the Huntington Hospital Emergency pediatric unit.

Students decorated 25 ceiling tiles with an underwater-life theme. The students painted the sea creatures and placed their thumbprints on each tile.

Dr. Eric Hoppa, associate director of Pediatric Emergency Medicine at Huntington Hospital, picked up the ceiling tiles. “These tiles are absolutely beautiful and will help cheer up the children who are in the Pediatric Emergency Department,” Hoppa said. Huntington’s Pediatric ED is a separate 6-bed unit.

“These beautiful and colorful tiles will be able to distract the children having procedures," Hoppa said.  "They will be able to look up at the ceiling and talk about the fish or seahorse, and the tiles will brighten the area and help make it more kid-friendly.”
