Town Notebook: Avalon and a Job Fair

Job fair and Anne Frank commemoration also scheduled this week.

The week starts off with a bang Monday, with the taking up the controversial AvalonBay proposal for Huntington Station.

The board will vote on whether to approve a zoning change that would allow for a large apartment complex on the north side of East Fifth Street near the station. The Suffolk County Planning Commission voted unanimously last week to approve a zone change for the project, which would create almost 400 residential units on a 26-acre plot.

Also on the agenda will be a proposal to grant Northport Village permission for a farmers’ market on property leased from the town and consider issuing a certificate of approval in a historic district on Old Country Road in Melville.
