Town Launches Parking Ticket Amnesty

Discount of 40% on old tickets during April.

The town's monthlong amnesty on parking fines went into effect Monday.

Huntington Supervisor Frank P. Petrone said those with unpaid parking tickets they can settle accounts inApril at a 40 percent discount of what is owed in fines and penalties.

  “This is a one-time opportunity for persons with unpaid tickets to clear their books and their consciences,” Petrone said. “I hope the financial incentive will prompt people to pay fines that in some cases have been lingering for as long as eight years.”

  The amnesty, which lasts until April 30, aims to collect approximately $625,000 in outstanding fines and penalties drivers incurred dating back to Jan. 1, 2005 and includes all tickets for which persons were to have replied to the Town's Parking Violations Bureau.

 Those with outstanding tickets should have received notices from Fundamental Business Service Inc., the company the Town hired to run the program.

 Approved payments methods include credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express), personal check, money order or certified check. Persons should not mail cash. To pay by credit card, persons should complete a credit card authorization form available on the amnesty letter.

  Payments can also be made in person at Town Hall, 100 Main Street, Room 310, between 9 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday. Payments must be made by check, certified check, money order or credit card. Cash is not accepted.

   On May 1, those who did not take advantage of the amnesty will owe the full amount in fines and penalties and risk other enforcement measures including the possibility of their car being "booted" or a lien being filed for the arrears.
