Fusaro Upsets Glidden in Huntington Manor Election

Voters pick challenger for seat on fire department's board of commissioners.

In a big upset Tuesday night, Chris Fusaro ousted John Glidden III, the chairman of the Huntington Manor Fire Department's board of commissioners.  The vote was 297-271.

Fusaro had previously served on the board from 1990-2005. Glidden was seeking his second five-year term.

Both men served in the Fire Department of New York and assisted with the Sept. 11 rescue or recovery efforts. Before this election, Glidden had been with the Huntington Manor department for 28 years and had served as chief from 2004-2005. Fusaro works with the volunteer division of the department as a safety officer and member of the training committee.

Fusaro said he was initially nervous about the election because of the weather but was pleased with the outcome.

"You're always surprised by election results. When you wake up in the morning and see snow on the ground, you get worried because you are afraid people aren't going to go back out to the polls after work," he said. "But you can get the people you can depend on to get out there and vote."
