Fleets Cove Beach Closed

County cites high bacterial counts for closing 5 beaches.

Suffolk County closed several beaches Thursday, including Fleets Cove Beach in Centerport, because of high bacterial levels.

Also closed were Tanner Park, Copiague Harbor Beach in Copiague,  the Town of Islip’s Lake Ronkonkoma Beach in Ronkonkoma and Benjamin Beach in Bay Shore.

For the latest information on affected beaches, call the Bathing Beach HOTLINE at 852-5822, contact the department’s Office of Ecology at 852-5760 during normal business hours, or visit the website link: www.suffolkcountyny.gov/health and under “Our Environment,” click “Beaches.”

In addition, the Town of Huntington closed all town beaches at noon Thursday, ahead of a forecast for heavy rain. No lifeguards or attendants were on duty.
