The Field of Honor program, which brings scores of American flags to the lawn of Huntington Town Hall, returns Oct. 20.
The Kiwanis Club of Huntington is running the program, which places 1,000 three-foot by five-foot American flags on the lawn for six weeks. Each flag is placed by a donor who pays $35 for the flag and is dedicated to an individual who is named on a gold tag.
The Kiwanis program is sponsored by the town supervisor, Town Board and several private groups, including Verizon, State Farm, and the Huntington Veterans Advisory Board.
This year's program will include the donation of an automobile to a needy veteran from Huntington Township.
Opening events include a 10K run and an award ceremony. The run will recognize veterans and those serving in the military that have dedicated their lives to protecting our freedoms.
An awards ceremony will take place in Hecksher Park immediately following the run/walk.
All proceeds from these fundraisers go to programs for Huntingtons neediest kids. Some of the programs include week-long sessions at Kiwanis summer camp, Thanksiving baskets for the needy, and the Sears Christmas Shopping Tour providing children's clothing and gifts for the holiday season.
