Boating Safety Courses Offered

Town, auxiliary sponsoring classes.

The Town of Huntington is teaming up with the Centerport Fire Department to offer the New York State Boaters Safety Course. It is free of charge.
 
The course is open to those 10 years and older and is designed as a comprehensive course teaching the fundamentals of safe boating operation, including accidents and emergencies, boat operation, equipment, fueling, navigation, etc.

The course will be offered at the Centerport Fire Department, 9 Park Circle, Centerport on March 21, 23 and 25 from 6 to 9 p.m. Participants must attend all three sessions to receive their boating certificate.

Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 2201 offers a boating skills and seamanship class and a New York State Young Boaters course starting May 3 at Half Hollow Hills High School in Dix Hills.

Classes run for six consecutive Tuesdays. The young boaters program is free; there's a $59 fee for the boating safety and seamanship course.

Completion of The NYS Young Boaters course allows children under the age of 18 to legally operate any type of propelled boat in New York State.

The Huntington Lighthouse Preservation Society has scheduled its annual music festival for Saturday, Sept.3, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The festival is not accessible by land; those without boats can arrange for charter transportation.

The Huntington Yacht Club's Ladies Auxiliary will be brunching Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
