Woman in Critical Condition After Falling off Horse

Christine Haggard of Centerport involved in accident at Sweet Acres Ranch in West Hills.

A woman suffered serious head injuries after falling off of a horse in West Hills today.

Christine Haggard was riding her horse at a slow rate of speed out of the Sweet Acres Ranch barn, located at 100 Sweet Hollow Road, to the stables when something spooked the horse, causing him to abruptly take off, according to police.

Haggard, 42, of Centerport, fell off the horse and struck her head on the ground. She was not wearing a helmet, according to police.

Haggard was transported to Stony Brook University Medical Center in critical condition with a fractured skull, fractured orbital bone, and a broken ankle.

Police are continuing with an investigation.
