Town Worker Critically Injured at Caledonia Park

A painting machine fell on a town worker while he was unloading it from a work truck.

A Town of Huntington maintenance worker was critically injured Thursday afternoon when a commercial painting machine fell on top of him.

Douglas Hay, 54, was at Caledonia Park—located on Caledonia Road between Wolf Hill Road and Deer Park Avenue in Dix Hills—unloading a commercial painting machine from the back of a work truck when he slipped and fell at approximately 2:30 p.m. The machine, which Hay was going to use to paint athletic fields at the park, rolled out of the truck and landed on top of him.
 
Hay of Ronkonkoma, was transported by Suffolk County Police Department helicopter to Stony Brook University Medical Center where he was listed in critical condition.

He has been a worker in the Town of Huntington's Department of General Services for 35 years., according to Town Public Information Officer AJ Carter.

"He is a valued and respected town employee and all our thoughts and prayers are for his speedy recovery," Carter said.
