A 19-year-old Huntington Station man is in the hospital with serious injuries following a single-car crash on Melville Road early Thursday morning, police said.

Shane McAdams was driving a 2000 Ford Mustang south on Melville Road in South Huntington when he apparently lost control of the vehicle, which crossed over the northbound lane and overturned onto the lawn of a residence at 12:17 a.m., police said.

The crash trapped McAdams in the vehicle and he was rescued with the assistance of members of the Huntington Manor Fire Department and police officers from the Emergency Service Section, police said. Firefighters used heavy rescue "Jaws of Life" tools to extricate the man.

He was transported via Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital where he is being treated for serious injuries that are not considered life threatening.
