To combat rising gun violence in Huntington Station, Long Island, Suffolk County has decided to deploy the ShotSpotter gunfire detection system; ShotSpotter, an acoustic surveillance system, uses microphones that pick up the sounds of gunfire. Patrol cars with laptop computers can then detect the origin of the shots within ten feet. The County Legislature approved a resolution last Tuesday, 15-3, to fund a $450,000 pilot initiative, which will be installed during the first three months of the upcoming year, Levy’s office said in a news release.

Worth repeating. I am embarrassed by the town in which I live. After 30 years, it's time to go. Savages rule the streets, English is not the spoken language and the politicians are all full of crap. Makes me sick that my kids use to ride there bikes on these streets now it's all about shootings and stabbings. Its an everyday occurrence. I'm tired of hearing the police helicopters above my house and locking my doors. I should not have live like this.

Nice. Huntington should put signs up at the entrances to the town stating "Protected by ShotSpotter" to encourage shopping and tourism.

It's much easier to spot the blood splatter then it is for the shot spotter to spot the gun shot .

I wonder if the shot spotter's microphone can accidentally misinterpret an incidental accident due to eating a large burrito For a shot in the dark from a gun...no pun intended of course.
