Pedestrian Struck on New York Avenue

Suffolk police say man seriously injured by car near East 12th Street.

A Huntington Station man was seriously injured when he was hit by a car early Sunday morning on New York Avenue.

Suffolk County police said Nelson Vasquez, 46, was struck by a Toyota Scion southbound on New Your Avenue near East 12th Street. The Huntington Community First Aid Squad took him to Huntington Hospital.

The driver of the Scion, George Schulman, 65, of Malverne remained at the scene and was not injured. The Toyota was impounded for a safety check.

 The investigation is continuing and detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed this crash to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.

The accident occurred near the same corner where a man was killed in a hit-and-run accident in August.
