New EMTs Join Halesite Fire Dept.

Percentage of EMT-certified members climbs alongside rescue calls.

The Halesite Fire Department is moving in step with an increase in rescue calls as they reach the highest number of EMT-certified members in their history.

KC Anna, Evan Meyers, Rick Oh, and Dominic Spada all recently completed the training required by New York State to become EMT's. With the addition of these four, 40 percent (32 members) of the department is now EMT certified.

EMT training requirements are significant and get more in-depth every year. People who are certified today are trained not only in providing basic life support, but also required to complete training in hazardous materials and incident management. The EMT certification class is approximately 146 hours not including testing time.

The department has responded to 193 rescue calls this year so far.
