Motorcyclist Critically Injured in Melville Crash

Huntington man uninjured in accident on Ruland Road.

Police are investigating a motor vehicle crash involving a Huntington resident that critically injured a motorcyclist in Melville Thursday.

Charles Pleckaitis, 73, traveling eastbound and attempting to make a left onto Maxess Road at 4:25 p.m. in a 2010 Toyota, was struck by Jordan Rutcofsky, operating a 2011 April motorcycle westbound on Ruland Road at a high rate of speed, according to police.

Rutcofsky, 29, of Deer Park, was transported by Melville Rescue to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. Pleckaitis, of 4 Cliftwood Ct., Huntington, was not injured.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks.

Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed this crash to call 631-854-8252. All calls will be kept confidential, according to police.
