Moped Operator Severely Injured In Crash

Woman hurt after vehicle hits tree in Huntington.

A woman riding a moped was severely injured Saturday afer she struck a tree.

Sophie Maxey, 20, was operating a moped on Windmill Drive when she lost control and struck a tree at about 2:50 p.m., Suffolk County police said.

Maxey, who attends Dartmouth College, suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to .

The moped was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing.
