Man Arrested for Warehouse Party

Suffolk police say large party in Huntington Station attracted more than 500 to abandoned building.

 UPDATED 1:30 p. m. Saturday
Suffolk County Police have arrested a man for hosting a party Friday night with more than 500 attendees in an abandoned warehouse in Huntington Station.

Second Precinct police officers responded to a 911 call regarding a party in a warehouse behind 1026 New York Ave., at 10:30 p.m. When officers arrived, they found about 560 people in the abandoned building, which did not have fire alarms, sprinklers or sufficient exits. Several windows were boarded up and the building was overcrowded.

The event was coordinated by Richard Hall, 47, of Huntington Station, police said. Hall campaigned this year for the Working Families Party endorsement for Town Board but lost.

The Town of Huntington fire marshal was also notified.

Hall was charged with second-degree criminal nuisance. He was scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Saturday.

The town said the building's owner, Jeffrey Schwartz was also cited for fire-code violations and not having an assembly permit.
