really? get the gangs and drugs out of our town? thats not how things work, not how policing works, but i admire your want for change. this article doesnt say anything about motive, gangs, the actions that occurred, just that there was a shooting and a death. wait for the facts and then we can talk about changing policing strategies.

A man is dead and the PD ask's for info. If they robber a church for food you would have seen canine units and helicopters.
Ry4702 February 06, 2012 at 02:23 PM
People should get there facts straight it happened outside. The victim was a friend of mine don't act like you know anything if you don't know what your talking about.

kath February 06, 2012 at 05:04 PM

No update on this since first reported 7am Sunday morning? Nothing from Petrone and crew? Nothing from the SPD? Maybe if we don't talk about it, the problem will go away?
Linda Otta February 06, 2012 at 06:40 PM
It's getting worse.
joe r February 06, 2012 at 06:49 PM
yeah actually curfew, they patrol and are in the immediate area and you can see that has no effect on crime so yes curfew ( that dosent mean you can't drive through there or go to the store it just means you can't stand on a streetcorner @ 1130 pm on a tuesday night in the middle of February) most people that are doing this aren't on their way to church

Nothing new to report? A kid is murdered on a Saturday night and we get crickets from town and police?
Jeanette February 06, 2012 at 11:29 PM
To quote clint Eastwood "As long as the right people are getting shot...."
Jeanette February 06, 2012 at 11:33 PM
Petrone should send there suffolk gang unit to get trained by the NYPD Gang Unit Know thats police work!!!!!!
Concerned February 07, 2012 at 12:05 AM
A deli open at 10:00 on a Saturday night? Most deli's I know are long closed at that hour. Maybe the town should be looking into those "deli's and see if they are operating as a legitimate "deli". And we can only pray once again that an innocent person is not killed next time.
Ashley February 07, 2012 at 12:36 AM
Maybe this will be a wake up call. Suffolk PD needs to stop wasting its time (and money) busting kids for smoking pot and other victimless crimes and start focusing on the seedy, dangerous activities taking place right below their radar...

just heard new news, he shot himself, was intended to be suicide. but it happened he died while staging his story
laura February 07, 2012 at 02:13 PM
What information do you have that it was intended suicide.
Muto February 09, 2012 at 04:11 PM
Depot Road? Isn't the same road where the new "kid friendly" entertainment park is? Um, I think I'll have to skip that place. I'd rather go to that crappy park in Bayville, at least no MS 13....
Frankie 9thstauto February 09, 2012 at 05:45 PM
just so everyone knows this person commenting as "9th street collision" is not affiliated with 9th street auto collision in any way. We feel bad about this type of crime happening in our neighborhood. thanks everyone.

I am so happy my taxes went up this year! I get the privy of watching drug deals go down on my street and have helecopters fly over my house at 3 am. Now a murder 2 miles away. I feel like I am back in LA. I keep trying to remind myself that we live in Huntington not Detriot but it's not working and Gran Torino is starting to look more like an instructional video rather than a movie. How long do you think it will take for INS to respond to the three houses on my street that are over occupied by people who fly under the radar? Has a squad car ever responded to the TIPS we put in about our resident drug drop? Have they done anything about that silver Honda with the Florida plates on the who sells to the meth skinny blonde on West Cortelyou? Nope because he is still there. We need to start somewhere and we need to start now. We live here, we pay dearly for the green grass of home and this is what we get? Shootings and police helecopters? How do we make this change? Where do we start this change? I'm not ready to give in - GET OFF MY LAWN! Is looking like my new mantra. WAKE UP people in charge and help us out here!

I've been polite thus far, but I've had it with the crickets... Hey Rich Jacques -- You mean to tell the people of Huntington that there is absolutely NOTHING to report on this story for almost one entire week? Really? Not a single lead? No explanation why "spotshotter" didn't work? No comment from the SPD? Nothing?? Does Petrone pay your salary?
Jason Molinet February 11, 2012 at 05:41 PM
Ongoing investigation folks. When the police have nothing to say there's not much we can do to advance the story. Hang tight.

Accidental shooting.
laura February 13, 2012 at 11:52 AM
This is a tragedy. This was an accedental shooting and he left behind two children. He wasn't a bad person,
Escape February 15, 2012 at 01:12 PM
Crickets....not a word from anyone on this.... Was it self-inflicted? Was it foul play? Are there suspects? Was the gun legal? Why didn't Spotshotter work? Guess if we don't talk about the problem will go away? With that logic, let's not talk about the illegals or the housing violations or Petrone, and maybe that will all go away too?

Hey Patch...just trying to help: Huntington Station shooting deemed accidental By Arlene Gross Times of Huntington February 16, 2012 | 05:10 PM Suffolk police have declared that the shooting of Michael Fredericks, 26, on Saturday, Feb. 4 on Depot Road, Huntington Station, was an accident. Originally reported by the SCPD public information office as occurring at approximately 10:18 pm at Los Campos Deli at 161 Depot Road, the shooting actually occurred across the street at 152 Depot Road, where the victim was hanging out with some other people, reported Det. Lieutenant Gerard Pelkofsky, commanding officer of the SCPD Homicide Squad. "They were at that location," Pelkofsky said. "He had a homemade weapon with him, a gun. During the course of his hanging out at this location, somehow he lost control of the weapon, causing it to fall and then fire one round which struck him in the face and caused his death."

So the question remains.....what happened to ShotSpotter? Still on the fritz?
christine bolt May 16, 2012 at 08:25 PM
Los campos deli needs to be looked at very closely even though the shooting didnt appear their but my son Michael was there all the time and yes I will admit that he was doing things there for wrong reasons. This place turned around and totally disrepected my son when people where trying to place flowers and candles. And I will put this out there too, he ran drugs for them and other things and I will have to guess the gun most likely came from their to due to someone from there owing my son some money for DRUGS. My son regardless of what he did was an awesome person very caring and giving. Just choose to not do so right. I am sure after this posting I would be judged about my son but you will all be wrong for judging. I never approved of his life style however he was a grown man that made his own choices and we are all accountable for our own mistakes.
Sheldon May 16, 2012 at 09:26 PM
I am very sorry for your loss, Mrs. Bolt. I can't imagine how painful it is. Thank you for sharing with us and reminding us there are real people behind the headlines. I hope your comments remind us all how we can help by letting the authorities know we expect more.
christine bolt May 17, 2012 at 01:20 PM
i know this "accidential" shooting is still under investigation. but i want to keep reminding everyone there that there needs to be a change in your communtiy. I do not live there but I have years ago, and it was starting to go down hill back then due to all the gang members and ilegal imigrants living there and taking over like roaches, my son was NOT in a gang but he did hang out with many MS13s, Latin Kings, etc. MS 13s are the main ones that are tearing that neighbor hood down and 70% dont belong there. It appears the MS 13 controls the LOS CAMPOS DELI. The police are very aware of this but yet nothing can be done. I really wish someone would close down that deli among the other little bars and and delis along NY AVE and Depot road. There is some much money in Huntington but yet no one wants to do anything. Sounds like you might have some corrupted people in office their or maybe the gangs are paying them off??? who knows. All I know is my son is dead and I cant blame anyone for it, but I do blame Huntington for not take a stand on cleaning up that area.
