Chili Cook-off at Greenlawn FD

21 participants take part to benefit the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Suffolk County.

It was a little damp outside Saturday, but inside the firehouse things got pretty hot at the first Greenlawn Fire Department Chili Cook-off.

Hosted by the Greenlawn Fire Department and United Cerebral Palsy Association of Suffolk County, the event featured 21 entries from fire departments and restaurants in the area, a raffle, DJ food and drinks.

The Greenlawn Fire Department won the People's Choice Award for best overall.

Other chili categories included Hot Three-Alarm, Super Hot Five-Alarm and Mild One-Alarm. 

Fire fighters from Centerport, St. James, Melville, Huntington Manor, Cold Spring Harbor, Kings Park, Lindenhurst and Greenlawn all competed in a the event to benefit nearly 3,500 individuals with disabilities and their families helped annually through UCP.

Judges include Huntington Town Board member Susan Berland, The Long Islander Editor and Associate Publisher Pete Slogatt and celebrity fire house chef Josepah Bonanno.
