E Northport Fire Department Responds to Gas Leak
A Town of Huntington garbage truck was leaking as much as 4,000 pounds of natural gas, firefighters said.
The East Northport Fire Department responded to a gas leak at Pulaski Rd and Old Bridge Road on Monday at 11:19 a.m.
Crews arrived to find a Town of Huntington garbage truck that was leaking as much as 4,000 pounds of natural gas. The crews dissipated the leak under the direction of Captain Thomas Bourne, who placed the scene under control within 90 minutes.
The department responded with three engines, an ambulance, fire police, and paramedic. Suffolk Police also responded for traffic and as well as an ESU for support. Suffolk County Town Fire Coordinators were also on scene. Northport Fire Department provided an engine standby and Centerport and Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corp. provided ambulance coverage.

Three residents, initially evacuated for precautionary reasons, were able to return home.
No injuries occurred at the incident and the scene was handed over to the TOH when leak dissipated.
