Mother, Baby Hurt in Crash on LIE

A mother and her baby were hurt in a crash on the Long Island Expressway on Saturday, officials said.

The Dix Hills Fire Department responded to the two-vehicle crash, in the eastbound lanes, just west of the Half Hollow Road bridge near exit 50, at about 2:15 p.m.

A late model SUV struck the road partition and overturned onto its side, injuring a mother and her baby, who was strapped into a child safety seat, officials said. Both suffered neck and back injuries and were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center by the Dix Hills Rescue Squad.

About 30 firefighters and rescue personnel were on the scene with two ambulances, three rescue pumpers, first responder and paramedic units, under the command of Second Assistant Chief Tom Napolitano.
