Busy Month For Huntington Bay Police in May

Rape, arson, theft, reckless endangerment top long list of criminal activity in the village.

It was a busy month for Huntington Bay police.

According to a monthly police report submitted Monday to the Huntington Bay Board of Trustees by Huntington Bay Police Chief Ray Hubbs, 70 police reports were filed and 28 summonses were issued in May.

Included in the report was a rape.

"Just so that people know, it was not like something that anybody has to be fearful, like there is somebody wandering around," said Hubbs. Describing the perpetrator as a reported gang member, Hubbs said "I don't think it's something that the general population in Huntington Bay has anything to worry about. Plus, he's already incarcerated." 

According to the Suffolk County Police Department, of Huntington Station was arrested in Huntington Bay for 1st degree rape – forcible compulsion June 1.

A Huntington Bay resident was arrested for reckless endangerment May 24 after he was allegedly discharging a rifle in an occupied residence. Child protective services was notified May 25 because an infant was present in the residence at the time of the incident, according to police.

Officers responded to an apparent arson on Bay Avenue May 23. Describing it as "serious," Gai said a criminal investigation has been opened by the Suffolk County police arson squad regarding the fire.

The Village of Huntington Bay sign was removed from the ground and destroyed May 31 at the intersection of Huntington Bay Road and Bay Road. Replacement cost is estimated at $1700, according to police.

Two GPS units were reported stolen from a vessel at the Huntington Yacht Club May 30. Suffolk County detectives were called to investigate the incident.

There were four motor vehicle accidents reported within the village during the month of May, no injuries were reported.
