Gerard St. Parking Lot Sparks Outrage! Trees Gone & Reconstruction Details Removed From Town Website!

It seems details on Gerard St. Parking Lot Reconstruction are gone off the Huntington Town website, as are all the great, big healthy old trees which proudly stood in the lot - all gone the way of the wind, without explanation.

As per News12 July 22 article, Business owners are complaining their business is being ruined by the project, and at the Gerard St. Parking Lot construction site, not a worker to be found at 2:30 in the afternoon.  The question now remains, was this project really necessary? Worse water drainage problems exist elsewhere in the area, and empty, unused vacant lots could be converted for parking at less expense, rather than create such a disturbance, as this ill thought out notion has.

One must weigh out how often this water drainage problem really does occur, to validate such an expensive "reconstruction" which now has ultimately caused Environmental Destruction at its finest, with chopping down those trees which took generations to grow.

To go by Consulting firm's studies, with staff who don't live in Huntington, makes no sense, as they really don't understand what makes Huntington Village so unique to residents, businesses, and attractive to out of town visitors for generations.   They try to reinvent the wheel, so to speak, at our expense causing ruination.

Maybe there should have been a group made up of actual concerned residents, business owners and even people who work in town to oversee and act as a Watchdog group of sorts, to oversee these Projects from start to finish and have more of a say in these matters.

The bottom line, much more information should have been made available for Public scrutiny before such a Project was approved and underway.  There would be no shame in the matter then, as there is now.
