Alan Kuver, Huntington Teacher and Fencing Coach, Dies

The beloved teacher and coach passed away Tuesday at age 47.

Alan Kuver, a technology teacher and fencing coach in the Huntington School District, died Tuesday night.

Mr. Kuver was 47. He passed away after a yearlong battle with esophageal cancer, according to the school district.

Born in Coco Beach Florida, Mr. Kuver graduated from Huntington High School. He later taught at J. Taylor Finley Middle School and was head coach of the Blue Devil boys’ and girls’ fencing teams.

“Mr. Kuver was a beloved teacher and coach who truly cared about the students with whom he worked,” Huntington Superintendent James W. Polansky said, according to the school district’s website. “Whether it was a classroom or gymnasium, he always put forth the effort to make the environment welcoming and provide students with ongoing opportunities to learn and grow.”

Upon hearing the news, community members gathered Tuesday night at The Rock for a candlelight tribute to Mr. Kuver.

There will be a memorial service honoring Mr. Kuver Saturday, July 12, at 1 p.m. at The Congregational Church Of Huntington in Centerport.

Visitation is Friday, July 11, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at M. A. Connell Funeral Home in Huntington Station.
