Five Things Going on This Weekend

Walking with Whitman; library concert happening in Huntington.

1. Walking With Whitman: The Walt Whitman Birthplace Association will present its latest installment in the Walking with Whitman: Poetry in Performance 2012 poetry series Saturday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. The evnt features Joseph Bruchac and Patti Tana. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the door.

2. Rug Show: Enjoy an assortment of beautiful hand-dyed hooked rugs at the Presbyterian Church of Sweet Hollow in Melville on Saturday from 9:30 a.m to 4 p.m. The event features vendors, raffles and a 3-D hooking workshop. Admission $5. Children under 12 free.

3. Used Clothing Drive: Gently used clothing, stuffed animals and soft household items will be collected at Saturday from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the North Gym. The South Huntington PTA Council will be paid per pound for all itmes collected. Funds raised will be used for scholarships.

4. Flute And Harp Duet: Enjoy the classic sounds of flutist Karin Marcello and harpist Karen Lindquist playing together at the Huntington Public Library Friday at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.

5. Did You Know? This year’s Kentucky Derby is Saturday but you can wager the day before the big race by visiting a nearby Suffolk OTB branch?
