April 5: Amanda Beard; Huntington's Masters Connection

5 things you need to know today.

1. Olympic Medalist Amanda Beard in Town: Athlete and author Amanda Beard will be at the Thursday at 7 p.m. speaking about and signing her memoir, "In the Water They Can't See You Cry." In her candid and ultimately uplifting book, Beard reveals the truth about coming of age in the spotlight, the demons she battled along the way, and the newfound happiness that has proved to be her greatest victory.

2. North Shore Civil War Roundtable: Valerie Protopapas will discuss her theory regarding the involvement of Confederate Col. John Singleton Mosby in the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln at the groups monthly meeting at the South Huntington Public Library at 7 p.m. Admission is free.

3. High School Softball: Molloy travels to  for a 10 a.m. contest.

4. Spring Break: Schools in Huntington and South Huntington began spring recess Wednesday. Classes resume April 16.

5. Huntington's Masters Connection: With first round Masters action begining Thursday at Augusta, did you know that Huntington native Chris DiMarco holds the record for the lowest 36-hole and 54-hole score for a Masters rookie? His best Masters finish was second in 2005. DiMarco has won three times on the U.S. PGA Tour. Born in Huntington, he moved from Long Island to Florida at the age 7 with his family. DiMarco, 43, failed to make the field for the 2012 Masters tournament.
