Huntington SEPTA Honors Teacher Aide Tracey Corcoran

SEPTA Honors Teacher Aide Tracey Corcoran

The Huntington School District’s Special Education PTA presented Woodhull Intermediate School teacher aide Tracey Corcoran with the organization’s Distinguished Service Award for her exceptional work.

“Mrs. Corcoran’s job is so much more than just being an aide; she is a social administrator, proctor, students’ friend, counselor and liaison between teacher and parent,” said Julie Porzio, a Huntington parent and SEPTA official who presented the award. “An aide’s role is a bigger job description than just the four letters A-I-D-E.”

Mrs. Corcoran is not only an employee of the district; she is a resident, too. Mrs. Porzio said that Woodhull students “turn to her for help, advice and support. She is so loved that I have heard the students asking her, ‘Will you graduate to Finley with us?’ Woodhull is very lucky to have someone that special in the building.”

Huntington SEPTA established the Distinguished Service Award to honor those who have gone the extra mile and played a key role in helping students with special needs reach their full potential.

SEPTA actively solicits nominations for the awards and after they are received, a multi-member committee review essays and other materials that document how the individuals facilitate inclusion, interact with students, make a difference in the youngsters’ lives and share their special qualities with parents and other staff members.

Mrs. Corcoran has worked for the district for many years and is a valued member of the staff. “I feel that our school district is very fortunate to have such a dedicated and devoted aide,” Mrs. Porzio said. “I believe she deserves this award for all her efforts.”
