Huntington Duo Honored by Suffolk Zone

Seniors Christian Jamison and Naomi Medina-Jaudes are among Huntington High School’s top student-athletes. Their accomplishments in physical education and athletics are etched forever in Blue Devil record books and now their exceptional academic performance, outstanding character and citizenship and their willingness to lead classmates has been formally recognized.

The pair was honored by the Suffolk Zone of the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance during a recent dinner at the Hyatt Regency Wind Watch in Hauppauge.

The Suffolk Zone honors one senior male and female student from each high school in the county. The award recognizes outstanding performance in physical education class over the course of high school.

Mr. Jamison has filed applications with some of the top universities in the country, including MIT, Princeton, Yale and Harvard. He has compiled an academic grade average of 102-plus and scored a 1,530 on the SAT.

“My favorite physical education experience was climbing all of the high elements in the Project Adventure classes,” Mr. Jamison said. “I feel that physical education taught me the importance of being physically fit, not just for competitive sports but to live a healthy lifestyle”

The senior is interested in studying math or physics in college. Mr. Jamison starred on the Huntington football team this past fall and plans to play lacrosse in the spring. He plans to play football in college.

Ms. Medina-Jaudes is extremely talented, too. A top student, the teenager is interested in attending either Williams College or Bowdoin College and studying psychology or math. A College Board National Hispanic Scholar, the teenager is currently enrolled in six Advanced Placement courses.

“My favorite physical education experience was in Project Adventure as a freshman,” Ms. Medina-Jaudes said. “Mr. [Jamie] Fishlow encouraged our class to trust each other and be supportive of one another. We had a great time, created a lot of memories and I am still friends with the people I met in that class.”

The senior was a starter on the Blue Devil girls’ soccer team that reached the Suffolk playoffs this fall. Ms. Medina-Jaudes is also on the winter and spring track and field teams.

To be eligible for the Suffolk Zone Award students must have earned at least a 90 average in physical education class and a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average in all classes prior to the senior year, demonstrate outstanding character, show leadership skills in both physical education class and general school-wide activities and serve as a role model for other students.
