Cameron Fehrs Leads Finley Girls’ Tennis

Seventh grader Cameron Fehrs compiled a 9-1 record in No. 3 singles to lead the J. Taylor Finley Middle School girls’ tennis team this past fall. The Falcons finished with an overall mark of 4-6 against a series of very strong opponents.

The 13-player Falcon team was captained by eighth graders Jaime Ioppolo, Rachel Moss and Lauren White. Eric Triolo coached the squad.

“As a team, we played every team tough and had a chance to win every game,” Triolo said. “We became a close team and worked hard every day.” Finley topped Hauppauge (7-0 and 7-0), Northport (7-0) and East Northport (7-0). The Falcons fell to Elwood (5-2 and 6-1), Stimson (4-3 and 4-3), Oldfield (6-1) and Commack (6-1).

Fehrs was a standout on the court. “Cameron is an excellent player with so much potential,” Triolo said. “She brings a lot of fun to our team. I can’t wait to coach Cameron next year.”

Seventh grader Christiana Deluca went 5-5 in No. 1 singles, a fine showing against such stiff competition. “She’s the hardest worker on the team and a great team player,” Triolo said. “She will only get better.”
