With the score knotted at one-goal apiece, Emma DeGennaro scored off an assist from Darya DeSimone with about one minute remaining in the game to lift the Huntington High School field hockey team over host Riverhead, 2-1. DeSimone scored the Blue Devils’ first goal of the afternoon off an assist from her sister, Irina.

Huntington goalies Greta Farrell (five saves) and Tara Byrnes (three saves) combined to stop eight shots.

Valles Scores and HHS Ties

Senior midfielder Gerardo Valles broke a scoreless tie in the 12th minute of the Huntington boys’ soccer team’s game at Deer Park last Friday. The Falcons tied the game in the 59th minute and it stayed 1-1 through two overtimes. Huntington goalie Lee Reiver made six saves.

Commack Tops H-ton Boys’ VB

The Huntington boys’ volleyball team put up a very good fight during a 3-0 loss to host Commack. The Blue Devils dropped consecutive games, 28-26, 25-14 and 25-22.

 

Maloney Scores Lone Goal

Host East Islip jumped out to a 2-0 first half lead and kept its advantage the rest of the way, topping the Huntington girls’ soccer team, 4-1. Mackenzie Maloney scored the Blue Devils’ lone goal. Taylor Moreno stopped eight shots in goal for Huntington.

 

A Painful Shutout

Huntington boys’ soccer goalie Lee Reiver was magnificent against visiting East Islip, recording 12 saves against a very good team. The Redmen snuck ball past Reiver in the second half and the East Islip defense made it hold up in a 1-0 victory over the Blue Devils.

 

Waldron on Fire

Junior Tom Waldron led the Huntington golf team past host West Islip, 7.5-1.5. Waldron shot a two-over-par 38 on the front nine at Southward Ho Country Club in Bay Shore. The victory improved the Blue Devils’ record to 3-0 in Suffolk League III play.

 

Up-and-Down for HHS Tennis

The Blue Devil girls’ tennis team cruised past host John H. Glenn last Friday, 7-0. In No. 4 singles, Huntington’s Nina Flores won an epic match, edging Katherine McPherson, 7-6 (7-3), 2-6, 7-6 (11-9).

A few days earlier, Huntington dropped a very close meet at Northport, 4-3. It was a completely different story when the Blue Devils traveled down Route 25A to Kings Park. Huntington came away with a convincing 7-0 win.

 

Petryk Breezes

Suzie Petryk was in a class of her own, breezing through the 2.8 mile course at Sunken Meadow State Park in 19:40 to help the Huntington girls’ cross country team defeat West Babylon, 19-44 (the low score wins in cross country).

 

H-ton Unable to Score

The Huntington boys’ soccer team was unable to score in a loss at home to Half Hollow Hills West, 1-0. Blue Devil goalkeeper Lee Reiver was once again sensational, stopping 11 shots. Huntington launched seven shots on goal, but couldn’t get one to reach the back of the net.

 

Offense is Stymied

The Huntington field hockey team’s offense was never able to get going in a 3-0 loss at home to Smithtown East. Blue Devil goalie Greta Farrell made nine saves. Tara Byrnes also stopped two shots in goal for Huntington.

 

H-ton Girls Lose Marathon

In one of the most exciting meets in a long time, the Huntington girls’ volleyball team lost a thriller at home to Comsewogue, 3-2. The Warriors captured the five-game marathon, 25-14, 18-25, 24-26, 25-15 and 25-18. 

 

Smoot’s Swing is Golden

Jim Smoot shined, shooting a one-over-par 37 on the front nine of Bethpage State Park Blue Golf Course as the Huntington golf team overwhelmed Half Hollow Hills East, 8.5-.5. Tom Waldron shot a three-over 39 for the Blue Devils, who improved to 4-0 in league play.
