Halesite Fire Department to give away FREE Smoke/CO detectors to residents!

Dear Neighbors,

I am pleased to announce that Halesite Fire Department will be distributing free combination Carbon Monoxide/Smoke Detectors with long-life batteries to residents of the Halesite Fire District later this year.

This initiative is made possible thanks to a Fire Prevention and Safety Grant awarded to the Halesite Fire District from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).  In accordance with the grant’s guidelines, we will be giving priority those who are at the greatest danger from fire and carbon monoxide poisoning. Specifically, Halesite residents with children less than 14 years of age and/or homes with senior citizens over the age of 65 will be given access to these free units first.

To request one of the free Carbon Monoxide/Smoke Detectors for your residence, go to our website at www.halesitefd.org .  On the homepage, there is a box on the top right hand corner where you can fill out a request form to reserve your smoke detector.

Halesite Fire Department will begin distributing the combination devices to District residents at its Fire Prevention Open House on October 6, 2013.  A lottery system will be used if the demand for detectors is greater than the supply that can be purchased through the grant.  If you can’t make this date, residents are invited to swing by Halesite’s firehouse after 10/6/13 to pick up their reserved detector.

With hurricane season upon us, I encourage you to reserve one of these free life-saving devices today – especially if someone in your home is either under the age of 14 and/or over age of 65.

Sincerely,

Daniel P. McConnell

Chief of Department

P.S.-Please note; these free detectors are ONLY available to residents who live in the Halesite Fire District. If you are unsure if you live in the Halesite Fire District, please feel free to contact us at 631-427-1910.
