Moonjumpers Pitch In for Holiday Gifts

Written by Jim Hoops

The holiday season will be much happier for an untold number of children in the Huntington area after Moonjumpers Charitable Foundation spearheaded the collection of 200 brand new toys and funds to purchase still more goods for the Family Service League and TriCommunity andYouth Agency’s Project T.O.Y. (Treasures Our Youth) initiative.

Moonjumpers collaborated with Nicky’s of Centerport for a special night that featured three sets of mindblowing rockandroll by Peter Mazzeo & The Hit Squad, one of Long Island’s top bands. Mr. Mazzeo was the founding president of Moonjumpers and remains on its board of directors.

Participants in the evening were asked to donate either a new unwrapped toy or to make a cash contribution, and the crowd didn’t disappoint. “We are really gratified by the response to our call from our friends and neighbors,” Moonjumpers President Robert Benson said. “The dance floor was filled and everyone had a great time. It was all for such a good cause. Helping children enjoy the holidays makes everyone feel good.”

Project TOY gives parents of struggling families an opportunity to choose two new unwrapped gifts for their children. The annual holiday boutique at the TriCYA facility is a time of pure joy parents who are excited to be able to provide their children with toys that they otherwise would not be able to afford.

Moonjumpers has also raised several thousand additional dollars that will be utilized to fund the purchase of desktop computers for use in the TriCYA’s afterschool program by local students. Debbie Rimler, the TriCYA’s regional director, was on hand at Nicky’s and wore a big smile, pleased to see such generous support for children and parents in need.

Moonjumpers Charitable Foundation is a registered New York State nonprofit and IRS approved 501(c) taxe-xempt organization. It is comprised of local residents from many different walks of life. Members of the group have a similar interest in helping those in the community who need it most. Moonjumpers supports initiatives designed to improve the quality of life of children and families, injured war veterans and others in need.
