Landmarks and Historic Sites of Long IslandWith Local Author Ralph BradyWednesday, October 16, 2013, from 6:30pm – 8:30 pm at the Cold Spring Harbor Library & Environmental Center, 95 Harbor Road, Cold Spring Harbor, NY 11724.

Have you ever wondered what the stories are behind the historic landmarks in your neighborhood?  Join local author Ralph Brady as he discusses his book, Landmarks & Historic Sites of Long Island and presents an assortment of current and vintage photographs of many of the sites included in this book.

Moving along through Nassau and Suffolk Counties, you will visit such familiar landmarks as Sagamore Hill, the William Floyd Estate, Old Bethpage Village Restoration, and the Big Duck.  There will be many surprise stops and little known facts about Long Island that are certain to intrigue you.  The tour includes stops at the first United States Navy submarine base, which was the site of the first Valentine poem written in the United States and from which the first transatlantic passenger flights departed, and an old military base disguised as a fishing village to fool German submarines during World War II. Through a light historic commentary rich with anecdotes, Mr. Brady will both entertain and inform you, while inspiring you to visit many of these historic sites on your own.
