Just as apples and stripped bass have their prime season, so too do potholes. They are predictable, unavoidable and a sometimes dangerous rite of passage on Long Island.
So far we've counted 30 potholes along 25A, a state road, between Northport and Huntington. These gravelly, asphalt mini graves are the scourge of any commute, spilling coffee and jarring your teeth at every opportunity.
Snow piles are still visible two weeks after the blizzard of 2013 slammed the region. Freezing and unfreezing of asphalt creates stress. Roads also took a beating, snow plows scrapping and pounding the pavement as they cleared roadways.
The net result: The roads around Huntington need fixing.
Patch is on a quest to uncover the roadways and intersections with the worst potholes. So sound off in the comments section and sound the alarm. Your car – and that minivan full of kids on the way to practice – will thank you.
